Did you watch the Met Gala?
The theme this year was ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ celebrating the culture of Black style.
I happened to be 35,000 feet up on an airplane and sadly missed it!
But the memes did not disappoint.
After a long night of travel, I found myself needing a 24 hour detox to get back into the swing of things! (So I apologize we are off our Sunday schedule for two weeks now. I’m practicing consistency over perfection here!)
While I was on that flight, I challenged myself to write for this community.
So from the heart, with no WiFi connection, I give you this short list:
The Most Important Things I Have Learned About Being a Creator…
Document Everything - Document your journey even when it feels mundane or unnecessary. Trust me, you'll kick yourself later when you wish you had that footage from six months ago to complete the narrative arc you're now ready to share. The clips you think are worthless today might become the most authentic proof of your evolution tomorrow.
Vulnerability is a Superpower - The moments when I've felt most exposed online have paradoxically brought the strongest connections. Your digital community will rally around your authentic struggles in ways that will genuinely shock you - offering support, solutions, and solidarity when you're brave enough to simply be human on screen.
Consistency Builds Trust - Your audience needs to know they can count on you showing up, even when life feels ordinary. Those day-to-day glimpses into your world create the foundation of relatability that keeps people engaged during the lulls between your big announcements or polished projects. The mundane matters more than you think.
You will Experience Trolls - The first truly cruel comment will hit you like a physical blow and force you to reckon with the darker side of putting yourself out there. This uncomfortable baptism into the internet's ugliness will either crush your spirit or strengthen your boundaries - how you respond defines your longevity as a creator.
It's often the off-the-cuff pieces that deliver big hits - The content you labor over for days rarely performs as well as what you create in a burst of inspiration and immediately share. Perfectionism is the enemy of momentum in the creator economy - you've got to embrace the "good enough" philosophy and keep the content flowing rather than endlessly polishing before releasing.
What have you learned so far on your content creation journey?
Agree with any of the above? Totally disagree?
