Musings + Social Media Trends: 3rd Week of August 2026
Hi friend,
I turned 37 on Saturday.
And I celebrated in the most unexpected way…
Usually I love a big party, a reason to get dressed up.
This year? All I wanted was a clean house, snuggles with my kids, some quiet time to work on the business… and a trip to Home Goods.
So that's what I did. I set out for Home Goods and Target on a mission to make our apartment feel settled. Kitchen utensils, new bath mats, the stuff you need and hope to find cool versions of.
And friends… I was bummed. There was just not much cool stuff. Everyone wants you to shop online now, and it made me so nostalgic for the 90s, when you could walk into a store and decorate your whole room in one glorious afternoon. Now the shelves feel thin everywhere. (Please tell me where you actually find cute home stuff in person these days. Hit reply. I need this.)
But here's what I keep coming back to about 37:
That feeling of not wanting anything grand? It's new for me. I spend a lot of time reaching and yearning for the next thing. So contentment, actual contentment, is a welcome guest.
I feel fulfilled and grateful walking into this year. I love my family. I truly love our clients at Authentic. I'm committed to taking ACN to new heights. I traveled so much this year, and now we're building our own home. After years of hard work and imperfect circumstances, things are really coming together. I'm clearer than I've ever been on my standards, who I want in my circle, and where I'm going.
And you know me… I'm a big sucker for goal setting, any excuse to reset. A birthday is the same magic: a fresh page, a chance to press go with new alignment.
Speaking of loving what I do, this week held one of those "I can't believe this is my job" moments.
I put together a shoot for a client around the gemming trend, and it was SO fun. I was the first woman in Michaels that morning, picking out gems with my kid. Went home, glued them on, shot TikToks all afternoon. I get to craft for a living and impress my clients doing it. A literal dream job.
It reminded me of something I preach to the agency team all the time: being fast, creative, and scrappy is what makes for great social media content. You don't need a fancy production. You need to catch the wave while it's still a wave.
I'll be real with you though, the week held heavy things too. I had to let a team member go. Someone with a great attitude and a real work ethic, whose natural strengths just didn't align with what the role needed. It was one of the hardest calls I've made, and there's a hole in my heart now that she's gone, even knowing it was right for the business. Building a business is hard. Finding the right people is one of the most rewarding parts, and one of the most challenging. One thing I am proud of Is the clarity and wisdom I have developed to make the hard calls when necessary.
To everyone who dropped birthday notes in the ACN Slack: you made me feel so loved and appreciated. This community gives back to me far more than you know.
Here's to 37. The simple stuff, the hard stuff, and pressing post.
XO, Lindsay
Social Trend of the Week
Somewhere Between
Where are you in life rn? We’re always “somewhere,” and that can be a good place or a hard one. In this trend, you share what your “somewhere” looks like. Your in‑between moment, your mix of doing this and figuring out that.
This trend It’s a nice way to show that everyone has a different lifestyle and that sometimes we’re not in a perfect place, not in a terrible place, just exactly where we’re meant to be (and that’s ok).
Examples: Mother, There, Motherhood, Mom.
