Have you set up your content creation efforts as an official business yet?

This month at the ACN Lunch n’ Learn we had the pleasure of meeting with Penny Rose, who is a CPA for content creators.

She is specialized in helping those whose children are a part of the family business.

Our session was filled with golden nuggets, including:

1) Are you set up to be paying your taxes as a 1099 contractor / freelancer or small business?

2) Have you obtained a federal EIN (Employer Identification Number) so that you could employ your children as part of your business?

3) Are you In a state like California or Illinois that just enacted the Coogan Law? Meaning 15% of your child’s earnings need to go to a specific trust that they cannot touch until they turn 18.

Depending on your answers to the above, you may want to watch the replay of the call on your ACN portal. (If you’re not a member yet, sign up here.)

A few of us on the call grew up in family businesses.

I made my Mom’s business cards, painted her office walls, answered phones, checked-in patients, called insurance companies, did bank deposits, and filed paperwork.

But I didn’t get paid!

And while I’m not mad at my parents for that…

(I am really grateful for those lessons!)

…I do wonder If perhaps they could have benefited from the tax advantage of adding my sister and I to payroll and If we could have saved some amount over the years!

The modern Mom who uses social media to make money - for promoting her business, having a UGC side hustle, or influencing full-time needs to know these foundational, yet often not talked about aspects of business.

I know we all want to set up our families and kids for success.

While it can be a lot to navigate— you don’t have to do it alone!

Manchild

Are you ready to turn your side-eye into content? Sabrina Carpenter’s sassy lyrics from her song "Manchild" are blowing up.

You can use it for a carousel post or sing along.
